It has been more then 10 years since Invader Zim was officially discontinued from the NickToon’s Network, but it is not over for everyone’s favorite world-dominating alien, and his waffle loving robot sidekick.
In a recent press release issued by Nickelodeon on April 4th, 2017 , it was announced that Invader Zim will be making his return in the form of a full length feature film. It is being developed for television, and many of the original cast and crew members will be returning.
A few hours after the press release, Nickelodeon showed off a teaser trailer for the new movie on their official Twitter page, as well as their YouTube channel. It doesn’t say much, but it certainly is nostalgic for those who grew up in the early 2000s.

Many of the crew members for Invader Zim have been tweeting and teasing about this exciting news!
The voice of Gir, Rikki Simons, tweeted this morning; “I’d like to share some exciting news with you guys this morning. My wife fixed our toilet.”
This of course was a joke, as the news that Invader Zim would be getting a movie started to spread across new outlets at that time.
Rickard Horvitz (Voice of Zim), Jhonen Vasquez (Creator of the Show), and Wally Wingety (Voice of the Red Almighty Tallest), have all either Twitted, joked about, mentioned, or acknowledged today’s announcement.
When Nickelodeon officially announced the news, fans and colt followers of Invader Zim started to go wild! Some of which were in disbelief, and thought this might be a late April Fools joke.
Reviving classic shows into TV Movies is not something new for Nickelodeon.
Back in November of 2015, Nick announced that Hey Arnold will be getting a new TV Movie. Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie will be releasing sometime in 2017.
In August of 2016, a Rocko’s Modern life movie was said to be in the works. A title and release date have yet to be revealed.
Reviving old classics seems to be a new trend with Nickelodeon, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we got something like a Rugrats, or Ren & Stimpy reboot in the near future. What about Rocket Power? Anything is possible now that the long awaited Invader Zim reunion is finally confirmed to be happening!

Do you think Nickelodeon will be able to pull off a successful reboot of a show that hasn’t aired a new episode in over 10 years? Will Jhonen Vasquez get the creative freedom he needs to make the movie as dark as the show was, or will Nickelodeon restrict him, because it is still a children’s television network? We will have to wait and see.
The Invader Zim movie will be releasing; “Soon…ish” according to the teaser trailer seen above. Don’t expect it to be released before the Hey Arnold! and Rocko movie however, as those were announced long before. Who knows what Nickelodeon has in-store for us? Only time will tell.
